In the news: Axiom Exergy and its clever battery technology
I'm very happy to report another successful company debut. Axiom Exergy, an energy-efficiency startup targeting supermarkets, warehouses and other businesses that use a lot of refrigeration. ZingPR helped Axiom launch its breakthrough product, which can shift supermarkets' peak energy use by up to 40%.
Before we get to how it does this, a little background. I met the guys at Axiom Exergy through my work with the Cleantech Open (the world's largest cleantech accelerator — a program I have supported pro bono for several years). As part of my support of this excellent organization, each year I donate an an-kind prize of PR launch packages to the regional and national winners—Axiom was among the 2014 crop. (Incidentally, PR collaboration with the Cleantech Open has led to a number of great success stories in previous years, including Alphabet Energy.)
So, back to Axiom Exergy. Here's now it works: at night, when electricity costs are low, its patented Refrigeration Battery stores refrigeration by freezing a tank of water that has some commonplace additives. The next day, it uses that frozen water to provide cooling during afternoon peak hours when electricity is expensive, enabling the supermarket's compressors and condensers to be turned off.
Value proposition:
1. Shifts peak usage to off-peak hours.
2. Provides backup cooling during power outages to prevent food spoilage.
3. It's an easy retrofit that uses existing refrigeration equipment.
4. Much less expensive than competing solutions.
ZingPR provided pre-launch positioning/messaging consulting services, defined the media strategy, and executed the entire project in about six weeks. Target media included technology blogs, cleantech and sustainability blogs, trade media, and local media.
Using a phased media outreach approach, we were able to line up some very influential media outlets. Results so far include:
Greentech Media: Axiom Exergy Turns Supermarket Fridges Into Energy Storage Assets
FM Link: Axiom Exergy converts refrigeration systems into low-cost energy storage assets
Energy Manager Today: Refrigeration Battery Works as Energy Storage
Perishable News: Axiom Exergy Claims It Can Slash Supermarkets' Energy Bills By Converting Refrigeration Systems
Treehugger: Refrigeration Battery is a cool idea for saving energy at the supermarket
I'm looking forward to extending the PR program with this talented team over the course of 2015.
